Many of those who toiled to preserve the Scripture did so at great personal cost. Many others have tried their best to snuff out the Bible by prohibiting its reproduction. In the early history of the church, Roman emperors such as Diocletian tried to destroy copies of the Scriptures (303 AD). Even in recent times, Communism has attempted to prevent the publishing and printing of Bibles.
